No federal law requires it. Federal law bans workplace harassment, though, and EEOC guidance treats regular training as a key part of preventing it. Some states do require training.
California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, and Maine require it for many private employers. New York also requires annual training under Labor Law 201-g. Each state sets its own employer size, timing, and content rules. Employers in those states should use the state-specific course, such as California Workplace Harassment Training for Employees.
What harassment and sexual harassment are, the protected traits under federal law, examples of unlawful conduct, how to report it, and protection from retaliation. The goal is to help employees recognize harassment, know where to go if it happens, and feel confident that reporting it is safe.
