Frequently Asked Question

Will Hair Dye Result in a Negative Drug Test?

Hair dye will not typically result in a negative drug test. Hair drug tests are designed to analyze the chemical structure of the hair for traces of drugs and their metabolites, which become embedded in the hair shaft as it grows. While hair dye can change the color and appearance of hair, it generally does not affect the presence of drug metabolites within the hair shaft itself.

However, some hair treatments, such as bleaching or heavy chemical processing, might potentially impact the hair sample's integrity and affect the test results. It is important to note that most standard hair dyeing processes do not interfere with the detection of drugs.

For accurate results, always inform the testing facility about any hair treatments you have recently undergone, including dyeing or chemical treatments. Proper drug and alcohol testing training ensures that technicians are aware of these factors and can account for them during the testing process, maintaining the reliability and accuracy of the results.
