Under OSHA Regulation § 1910.67 (also called OSHA Standard 1910.67) and ANSI/SAIA A92.24-2018, operators of Vehicle-Mounted Elevating and Rotating Work Platforms are required to be trained in accordance with the following requirements:

  1. Explanations of electrical, fall, and falling object hazards;

  2. Procedures for dealing with hazards;

  3. Recognizing and avoiding unsafe conditions in the work setting;

  4. Instructions for correct operation of the lift (including maximum intended load and load capacity);

  5. Demonstrations of the skills and knowledge needed to operate an aerial lift before operating it on the job;

  6. When and how to perform inspections; and

This course is designed to comply with these requirements when used in conjunction with vehicle and platform-specific training provided by and through an employer directly.

 Workers should be retrained if any of the following conditions occur:

  • An accident occurs during aerial lift use,

  • Workplace hazards involving an aerial lift are discovered, or

  • A different type of aerial lift is used.

Employers are also required to retrain workers who they observe operating an aerial lift improperly.
