DNA Paternity Collector Training

DNA Paternity Collector Training is a qualification program designed for individuals looking to start their own mobile or onsite DNA testing business or add DNA paternity collection to their existing professional services. The course takes approximately 3 hours to complete and has no prerequisites, so anyone can enroll and get started immediately.

This course also includes initial training supplies shipped directly to your door, so you have everything you need to complete your mock collections and certification. Upon completing the online exam and mock collections, you can immediately download your certificate of completion.

Training begins with self-paced online proficiency modules and progresses to live, instructor-led virtual mock collections and scenario training. These hands-on sessions prepare learners to perform buccal swab collections, handle common collection challenges, and submit samples to DNA testing laboratories in accordance with proper chain-of-custody procedures and protocols.

This course is designed for collectors operating in the United States and other countries where private DNA paternity collection is legally permitted. DNA testing laws vary by country and jurisdiction. It is the responsibility of each learner to verify that DNA paternity collection is legal and properly regulated in their location before enrolling and operating as a collector.

Proper qualification is essential in DNA collection. Trained collectors follow strict protocols that minimize the risk of contamination, protect sample integrity, and ensure results are legally defensible in court, protecting both your clients and your business from liability.

Upon completion, we can provide a list of accredited DNA testing laboratories to help graduates set up confirmation testing accounts, giving new collectors a direct path to getting their business operational. Please note that while we facilitate these introductions, account approval is subject to the laboratory's own requirements and cannot be guaranteed.

The DNA testing industry is a growing and accessible business opportunity. Mobile and onsite DNA paternity collection services are in high demand across the country, serving clients in family law cases, immigration proceedings, and personal curiosity testing. This course provides the training, qualification, laboratory connections, and initial training supplies you need to launch and operate your own DNA testing business with confidence.

The course covers both legal paternity collections used in family law and court proceedings, and curiosity paternity collections for individuals seeking personal knowledge outside a legal setting. Understanding the distinction between these two collection types is critical for any collector operating a business, as the chain-of-custody requirements and documentation standards differ significantly between them and directly affect the legal admissibility of your results.

Training includes interactive videos, documents, presentations, and supplementary resources, followed by live virtual mock collection sessions in which you practice real-world scenarios with an experienced instructor. This combination of online learning and hands-on virtual practice ensures you are fully prepared to perform collections accurately and confidently from day one of your business.

DNA Paternity Collector Training FAQ

No federal rule sets training for DNA paternity collectors. Labs set their own collector standards, and legal cases may add chain of custody rules.

Staff at collection sites, clinics, and drug testing businesses who collect cheek swabs for paternity and relationship testing.

Legal tests use strict chain of custody and ID checks so results can be used in court. Peace of mind or curiosity tests skip those steps. They answer the question privately but cannot be used in court.

Usually with buccal swabs rubbed inside each participant's cheek. The collector follows the lab's steps, labels each swab, and seals the kit.

It proves the sample came from the right person and was not tampered with. A break in chain of custody can make a result useless in court.

Adults usually show government photo ID and are photographed. Children are identified by a parent or guardian and are often photographed too. Follow your lab's ID rules.

Yes, many do. DNA collection uses different kits and chain of custody forms, so separate training is needed.

Usually yes, with consent from a parent or legal guardian. Children are often photographed as part of the ID process. Labs and courts may set extra rules.
